The Vision
We believe that, “All Scripture is self-attesting and being Truth, requires our unreserved submission in all areas of life. The infallible Word of God, the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, is a complete and unified witness to God’s redemptive acts culminating in the incarnation of the Living Word, the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible, uniquely and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit, is the supreme and final authority on all matters on which it speaks...” (From the Essentials of the Faith by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church) in response to this conviction, Cornerstone Church’s vision is instructed by God’s revelation in scripture.
The explanation
Our Purpose in Life
Paul prays for the church in Ephesus, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21) Like Paul, we pray that Cornerstone Church would bring God glory. We intend to demonstrate how great God is in every area of our lives as a church, as families, and as individuals. Our purpose is to, “glorify God and enjoy him forever.”

Our Commitment to Fellowship
Jesus prayed, “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” (John 17:20-21) We pray that our relationships with each other as brothers and sisters in Christ will serve as a witness to bring other people to believe in the Savior. Seymour Johnson Air Force Base is an integral part of Goldsboro. Many of our members have a rich history of ministering to and with military personnel. So, we will continue to be active in building relationships with them, and providing them a, “home away from home.” Of course, we’re eager to welcome anyone, military or civilian, as our honored guests with the hope that they will find a home at Cornerstone Church.

The Apostle John says, “…let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” (1 John. 3:18) Therefore, Cornerstone Church has a passion for missions. In response to the blessings God has given us, we seek to be a blessing to others through personal acts of kindness as well as initiating and participating in ministries that improve the quality of life in Wayne County. However, our passion to embody the love of Christ extends well beyond the local area. We also seek to develop friendships with peoples in other parts of the world, and to partner with them in the work of God’s Kingdom. As in the Parable of the Good Samaritan, we recognize people in need as our neighbors. So, we are called to help them as we are able. We pray God will use us to make a positive impact on our own community as well as distant places for the glory of his name.

Jesus said, “You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.'” (Matthew 4:10) So, we joyfully give our hearts to God in worship as we sing his praises, spend time with God in prayer, and dedicate our time, talent, and treasure to his purposes. We read and proclaim the scriptures, which declare who God is and who we are called to be in response to his grace given to us. We trust God to use the faithful proclamation of the Gospel to call the lost to believe in Jesus, and compel Christ’s followers to joyfully live in obedience to his commands. We follow Jesus’ command to baptize new believers as we welcome them into the family of faith, and we share Holy Communion with one another, celebrating that we are forgiven in Christ and drawn closer to God and each other through the working of the Holy Spirit.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20) We pray the Holy Spirit will use our relationships, our acts of compassion, and the Gospel proclaimed in worship to bring many people to faith in Christ. However, we also equip believers to share our faith in Jesus through their personal witness. Our friends, family, and neighbors who are still, “in the world” desperately need to know the peace of being forgiven of all sin, the love of being adopted into God’s family, the joy of living the life for which they were made, and the certain hope of going to heaven! As a person is coming to faith we have a great responsibility to disciple them by modeling a distinctly Christian life. We share our lives with our brothers and sisters as they grow in faith. We pray for them, help answer tough questions, and encourage them to persevere through times of trial or doubt. We pray that new believers will be excited about their faith and will share the Gospel with others. We equip disciples of Christ to make disciples of others.

We place a high priority on teaching our children how to live as followers of Jesus through example as well as instruction. We are equally committed to offering sound biblical teaching in the Reformed tradition for adults. We offer clear explanations of basic beliefs to our guests who may be exploring the faith, as well as in-depth bible studies for maturing believers.
